1.Deep tissue massage/Sport massage:
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that uses slow and firmer strokes and pressure, such as deep finger pressure or rubbing, concentrated on particular areas. Practitioners to achieve the desired effect may use their forearms, elbows, fingertips and knuckles as well as their hands. These target areas are usually called trigger points which can become activated by muscle overuse or as well due to muscle inactivity.
Other causes are minor or major trauma; inflammation; electrolyte imbalances; hormone imbalances (firstly high levels of cortisol).
Trigger points are described as hyperirritable spots in the fascia surrounding skeletal muscle.
On examination, we can find palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibres. The active trigger point hurts when pressed with a finger and causes pain around it and can refer to other areas.
Cause of that we find a weakness, reduce proprioception and reduce flexibility in the muscle. For instance, Deep tissue massage aims to increase the blood flow in the area, deactivating these trigger points and reducing the pain and the muscle stiffness.
