Plantar fasciitis is a common musculoskeletal ailment that causes heel pain.
The condition gets its name from the thick ligament called the plantar fascia that connects the front region of the foot to the heel.

This web-like structure is responsible for supporting the arch of the foot and absorbing shock, thereby facilitating movement. When the plantar fascia ligament experiences excessive wear and tear, it becomes inflamed.
This results in debilitating heel and or plantar pain, aka plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis typically develops and grows over a span of days.
Initially, you may experience mild pain or a burning sensation near the bottom of your foot.
This tends to worsen overnight or after a few hours and is most noticeable when you attempt to walk.
If left untreated, the pain becomes more prominent and interferes with your everyday activities.
For instance, it irritates the heel and make climbing stairs or even walking short distances a challenging task.
You may not realise the severity of the pain and discomfort while you’re performing said activity, but the aftermath is noticeably painful.

With prompt and effective plantar fasciitis treatment, patients can recover in a matter of a few weeks or months.
